โ˜€๏ธ HOT WEATHER FIRST AID | HEAT EXHAUSTION โ˜€๏ธWith temperatures rising across England, itโ€™s important to know the signs of heat exhaustion and what to do if someone becomes unwell in the heat.Heat exhaustion happens when the body overheats (above 38ยฐC), often due to hot weather, physical activity, or both. If left untreated, it can quickly develop into heat stroke โ€” a life-threatening emergency.Children, older adults, and vulnerable people are especially at risk.๐Ÿฉบ FIRST AID FOR HEAT EXHAUSTION:โœ… Use the โ€œShade, Strip, Spray, Fanโ€ (3SF) technique:โžก๏ธ Move them into the shadeโžก๏ธ Remove outer clothingโžก๏ธ Spray or sponge with cool waterโžก๏ธ Fan vigorously to help cool them downKeep the skin damp and continue cooling until their temperature is below 38ยฐC.๐Ÿ’ง Encourage fluids:Water is helpful, but oral rehydration solutions or isotonic drinks are even better as they replace lost salts too.๐Ÿ“ž Seek medical advice:Even if they recover quickly, contact NHS 111 or visit an Urgent Treatment Centre for advice.๐Ÿ‘€ Monitor them closely:Check they know:โœ”๏ธ where they areโœ”๏ธ the date/timeโœ”๏ธ who they are withLook out for confusion, unusual behaviour, worsening symptoms, or reduced responsiveness.๐Ÿš‘ Call 999 immediately if you are worried at any point. Please save and share this post โ€” it may help someone during the current hot weather.Online advice is available from www.nhs.uk/conditions/heat-exhaustion-heatstroke/ or 111.nhs.uk/ #HeatExhaustion #Heatwave #FirstAid #StaySafe #HeatSafety #SummerSafety #RGLSafety #EmergencyFirstAid #PublicSafety #UKWeather #HealthAndSafety #FirstAidTraining #CommunitySafety #NHS111 #HeatStrokeAwareness ... A great day on Monday delivering Elementary First Aid training as part of the STCW maritime training programme on behalf of Fire Aid Academy. ๐ŸŒŠโš“๐Ÿš‘It was especially fitting that the training took place on International Day for Women in Maritime โ€” a day recognising and celebrating the contribution women make across the maritime industry worldwide. One of the highlights of the day was the learners creating their own emergency scenario for a practical exerciseโ€ฆ which escalated into a simulated bus crash onboard a roll-on/roll-off ferry! ๐Ÿšโ›ด๏ธ Safe to say there was no shortage of imagination, teamwork, or enthusiasm. What I really enjoy about maritime training is the mix of people and experience in the room. On this course we had learners preparing to go to sea for the very first time alongside experienced captains with over 40 years at sea โ€” and every single person got fully involved and contributed to a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day.Itโ€™s always appreciated to receive feedback after training, and a couple of comments from the day really stood out to me:โ€œRobert is enthusiastic and knowledgeable, creating a fun and effective learning experience.โ€โ€œI have enjoyed today, the instructor/teacher was engaging and explained things very well. I always felt involved and interested. The practicals were also good.โ€Thank you again to everyone who took part โ€” wishing you all safe voyages and fair seas ahead. โš“#STCW #ElementaryFirstAid #MaritimeTraining #WomenInMaritime #FirstAidTraining #MaritimeSafety #FireAidAcademy #RGLSafety #safetyatsea @fireaid_gmt ... Last week was Mental Health Awareness Week here in the UK โ€” a reminder that looking after our wellbeing isnโ€™t a luxury, itโ€™s essential. For me, the things that help keep me grounded are often the simplestโ€ฆ time with family, a little bit of Disney magic, being out in the beautiful New Forest, walking along the seafront, and whenever possible, being at sea. ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒฒโœจThis week is also EMS Week in the USA, recognising the incredible work of emergency medical services professionals and highlighting the importance of wellbeing, resilience, education, and patient care. Whilst we donโ€™t have a direct UK equivalent, we do have initiatives such as Air Ambulance Week other recognition events that celebrate the amazing work of ambulance staff, first responders, and volunteers across the UK.My own week ahead is a reminder of just how varied โ€” and rewarding โ€” this profession can be:๐Ÿš‘ Today Iโ€™m empowering those working at sea through Elementary First Aid training.๐Ÿš‘ Tomorrow Iโ€™ll be back on the frontline with the NHS Ambulance Service.๐Ÿ“š Wednesday I become the student again, updating my safeguarding knowledge.๐Ÿš‘ Thursday, back with the ambulance service.๐Ÿซ Friday, volunteering as a School Governor.Different roles, different hats, but all connected by people, learning, support, and community.Whatever your role this week, I hope you find time for the things that recharge you too. ๐Ÿ’™#MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #EMSWeek #Wellbeing #firstaid #AmbulanceService #Education #Safeguarding #SchoolGovernor #MaritimeSafety #NewForest #NHS #RGLSafety #EMSWeek2026 ...
